A Strip Seal Expansion Joint is a mechanical device installed in bridges and other structures to accommodate movements caused by temperature variations, shrinkage, creep, and vehicular loading while ensuring a smooth, durable, and watertight transition between adjacent bridge decks.
The system consists primarily of two steel edge beams securely anchored to the structure and an elastomeric sealing element (neoprene or EPDM) fitted between them. The edge beams protect the joint from traffic impact and distribute loads to the substructure, while the elastomeric seal provides complete watertightness and flexibility to accommodate movements.
The joint is designed to permit longitudinal, vertical, and rotational movements within the specified range, ensuring structural integrity and serviceability of the bridge deck. Its robust design offers excellent durability, ease of maintenance, and high resistance to corrosion, weathering, and heavy traffic loads.
Accommodates thermal expansion and contraction of bridge decks.
Provides a watertight seal to prevent ingress of water, debris, and deicing chemicals.
Capable of withstanding vehicular impact and dynamic loads.
Smooth riding surface for user comfort and safety.
Modular design suitable for a wide range of movement capacities (typically up to 80 mm).
Low maintenance and long service life.
